ELLESMERE PORT, England (June 29)—Delphi Automotive Systems is launching an Internet-based parts delivery system at its Supply In Line Sequence Center in England which schedules deliveries from 73 suppliers around Europe to General Motor Corp.´s Vauxhall car plant in the region. The new logistics operation is exceptionally lean, Delphi said, with just three to four hours of stock for some product lines. It will replace resource-intensive telphone, fax and EDI messages to schedule and confirm deliveries from each of the 73 suppliers by the end of the year. Eventually, the new system could save up to 20 man days a month, while decreasing inventory and cost and increasing accountability, Delphi said.
