GREENVILLE, S.C. (June 14)—JPS Industries Inc. stepped out of the red and into the black with net income of $1.6 million for the quarter ended April 29 compared to a $26.3 million loss in the period last year. Sales of $72.6 million were about on par with last year´s $72.3 million. The manufacturer of extruded urethanes, polypropylenes and mechanically formed glass substrates for specialty industrial applications and apparel fabrics had net earnings of $2.3 million for the first six months compared with a loss of $26.4 million in last year´s quarter. Sales slipped 3.7 percent to $137.3 from $142.7 in the 1999 span.
