BRUSSELS, Belgium (June 5)—The International Federation of Chemical, Energy, Mine and General Workers´ Unions is close to signing a global agreement with Freudenberg Group covering union rights, health, safety and environment and equality at work, the federation said during a recent meeting in Brussels. "Discussions are particularly far advanced with Freudenberg. We hope to finalize an agreement with them by the end of June," said Fred Higgs, general secretary of the ICEM. Freudenberg is among a group of multinationals being targeted by the ICEM, which has launched on a campaign to establish these agreements and create global union networks within the companies concerned. Freudenberg had no comment on the proposed agreement.
