Tekni-Plex Co.´s AGR Medical Rubber Division has developed a compound it says eliminates drug contamination problems caused by commonly used sealing compounds in packaging. AGR´s research and development laboratories created the compound, based on an acrylonitrile butadiene elastomer and made of nitrile rubber, for a large pharmaceutical company, the firm said. AGR´s low-extraction compound contains dry reinforcing ingredients for good sealing properties, but no plasticizers, which can interact with and contaminate drugs, the company said. The compound is ideal for metered dose bronchial inhalers, pre-filled syringes and numerous other applications, AGR said. The technology also can be applied to base elastomers other than acrylonitrile butadiene, such as bromobutyl and synthetic rubbers. For more information, call 973-227-8080, Ext. 36.
