DES MOINES, Iowa (May 18)—An Arkansas truck driver won $328,000 in damages against Titan International Inc. after a Polk County jury decided May 11 the company was negligent by leaving a hole at its Des Moines tire plant uncovered, the "Des Moines Register" reported. Mark New, 25, suffered a herniated back disk after he fell into a 6-ft.-deep hole located beyond a doorway at the facility. The jury´s award included damages for negligence, loss of future earnings, loss of companionship, medical expenses and emotional pain and loss for his wife.
