WASHINGTON (May 12)—A latex allergy activist has petitioned the Consumer Product Safety Commission to have natural rubber latex and all latex-containing products a "strong sensitizer." If the agency grants the petition, it would mean all products containing latex—such as gloves, balloons, condoms, pacifiers, shoes, adhesives and carpet backing—would have to be labeled as products which cause serious, possibly fatal allergic reactions. May 22 is the deadline for comments on the petition, which appeared in the March 21 "Federal Register."
