BRUSSELS, Belgium (May 11)—About 5,000 Turkish tire workers returned to work May 9 after striking for 11 days over what they called a ``wholly inadequate offer´´ from tire companies with operations in Turkey. A large portion of tire industry workers in Turkey went on strike April 28 after six-month negotiations with tire companiesÃincluding subsidiaries of Goodyear, Bridgestone Corp. and Pirelli S.p.A.Ãfailed to produce a new contract through 2001, according to the Brussels-based International Federation of Chemical, Energy, Mine and General Workers´ Unions. On the same day, a week-long strike involving more than 84,000 Norwegian industry workers, including those who make rubber products, ended with a new two-year-deal.
