CLEVELAND (April 19)—M.A. Hanna Co. today announced first-quarter operating earnings of $25.2 million on sales of $613 million. In the rubber processing segment, sales increased 6.2 percent to $139 million compared with 1999 first-quarter sales of $131 million. The company claimed the segment showed "double-digit gains in profitability," but did not quantify its earnings. Operating margins in its rubber processing section increased to 9.1 percent from 8.7 percent in 1999, Hanna reported.
