SAO PAULO, Brazil (April 19)—Union members from nine Latin American countries gathered in Brazil April 13-16 to discuss common labor concerns and the need to form international networks among workers employed at international tire and rubber companies. The 83 delegates were from unions affiliated with the Latin American labor organization Frente Unico de Los Trabajadores en Las Industrias de Neumaticos y Afines de Latinoamerica. FUTINAL oversees about 70,000 tire and rubber workers. The union representatives will meet again in October to try to develop a "unified demands" agenda for future negotiating.
