SHANGHAI, China (April 19)—Bayer A.G. has established a technical service center for applied polymer technology in Shanghai to provide support for its customers in China. The Leverkusen, Germany-based company will invest about $10 million in the center, which will complement Bayer´s polyol formulation and polycarbonate sheet manufacturing in China. The unit also will work with the firm´s planned integrated chemical site in Shanghai, which includes a $450 million polycarbonate facility which Bayer intends to begin building shortly, a spokesman said. The firm is negotiating to set up production units for polyurethane, rubber, coating raw materials and chemicals within China, he said. Sales in the $535 million range in 1999 made China Bayer´s second largest individual market in Asia, the spokesman said.
