GARDEN CITY, N.Y. (March 7)—Dennis J. Gormley, former chairman and CEO of Federal-Mogul Corp., has been named chairman of Environmental Processing Systems Inc., the Garden City-based manufacturer of fine rubber powders from scrap tire and rubber. Gormley, who said he has been on EPS´ board since July, called his advisory role with the firm "a very exciting opportunity." Gormley, who attempted to change Federal-Mogul´s emphasis from auto parts manufacturing to international retailing of replacement parts, stepped down as CEO in 1996 as the company headed toward a full-year loss of $206 million. Interviewed by phone while traveling on business, however, Gormley said a heart bypass operation, not Federal-Mogul´s financial performance, was the real reason behind his leaving the company.
