WASHINGTON (Feb. 22)—President Clinton has formally granted the request of the Rubber Manufacturers Association and its tire-making members for a tariff exemption for tire-cord-quality wire rod. U.S. producers don´t make enough tire-cord-quality rod to meet domestic demand, they said in their petition to the International Trade Commission, and therefore a tariff on rod imports is inappropriate.
