TOKYO (Jan. 18)—Yokohama Tyre Vietnam Co. has begun production and sales of light truck tires at its 18-month-old plant and expects to turn out 5,000 units a month in 10 sizes throughout 2000. The company, a joint venture involving Japan´s Yokohama Rubber Co. Ltd. and Mitsubishi Corp. and Vietnam´s Southern Rubber Industry Co., began production of motorcycle tires in August 1998 and added scooter tire output at the plant in the Ho Chi Minh City suburb of Hoku Mon in July 1999. The company is evaluating its prospects for adding production of tires for cars, trucks and buses.
