CLEVELAND (Jan. 11)—Goodyear began its defense in federal court Jan. 10 in a case involving a hose it manufactured for the hydronic heating market between 1989 and 1994. At issue is whether or not Goodyear sold a hose to Heatway Systems that was fit for the residential and commercial heating systems in which it was used. A number of installations of the hose—sold under the Heatway brand-name Entran II—across North America have sprung leaks. Heatway claims Goodyear´s product was not fit for the applications, while Goodyear claims Heatway misled it about the nature of the systems in which the hose was to be used.
