Michelin expands Tweel offerings with larger, more robust tires

GREENVILLE, S.C.—Michelin's airless tire development is taking Tweel further, expanding coverage while adding versatility and load-carrying capabilities to the nonpneumatic tire line.

The South Carolina-based tire maker Oct. 17 introduced its 26X11N14 Michelin Tweel UTV tire, designed to give landscaping, construction and rental fleet teams greater load-carrying capabilities.

Michelin's 26X11N14 Tweel is 2.8 inches wider than its predecessor (26X9N14) and offers 85 percent more carrying capacity—608 pounds in all.

The new wide-based rear fitment—available in five SKUs and with five different bolt patterns for versatile UTV fitment—boasts increased load capacity of 1,323 pounds per tire, and has a speed rating for up to 62 mph.

"This new line of Tweels expands our coverage even more for the construction, landscaping and rental fleet markets," Tony Marconi, business director of Michelin Tweel Technologies, said in a statement. "The success of the Tweel product line has been amazing, and we know this latest offering will continue to help our customers become even more productive and manage their operating costs with even more efficiency."

The Greenville-based tire maker also is adding fitment options for its Michelin X Tweel Turf 24-inch tires, expanding its partnership with Mean Green Mowers for its latest offering.

The new Michelin X Tweel Turf tires, in size 24x12N12 10x8.5 +1.7-inch offset, can be used as rear-wheel OE option or as a replacement tire for the standard 24x12x12 tire.

"We're thrilled to continue our partnership with Mean Green to offer Tweels on even more of their innovative all-electric mowers," Marconi said. "Building on the success of the innovative 'hubless' Tweel for their EVO mowers, we are exhilarated to expand this design, which mounts directly to the motor-hub-drive unit on both their Rival and Vanquish mowers."

The Michelin X Tweel Turf tire in size 24x12N12 features a 750-pound load capacity, which can be used with or without a bagger system. Its hubless design uses either a 5-bolt configuration to attach a retrofit replacement for existing mowers, or a 10-bolt standard OE configuration for new mowers.

The partnership with Mean Green represents something deeper for Michelin, which has committed to the development of sustainable mobility solutions.
