Among TRG's anticipated additional resources and investments are additional hires in manufacturing, machining and tooling to help promote growth opportunities. While the Cooper division will retain its brand in the short term, it will eventually be folded in under the TRG name, Loskofsky said.
TRG executives believe that the Cooper Products acquisition will enhance its ability to meet the evolving needs of its evolving customer base and find new growth opportunities. Other potential synergies between the two organizations include metal stamping, insert prep and overmolding capabilities, Pruyn said.
Like TRG, Cooper Products operated in markets that require high reliability applications and produced sealing components where the impact of product failure is significant for the end client.
"They bring experience in tool design and very tight tolerance with mission critical applications," said Pruyn, who lauded Cooper's intellectual property ownership. "They specialize in precise sealant applications, tooling design, manufacturing capabilities and stamped metal, which all fit our (needs)."
The short distance between the two New Hampshire facilities also will give TRG an option for risk mitigation support in case of an emergency or if recovery is needed, Pruyn said. "For many reasons, more space and equipment is a big bonus for us," he added.
This may not be the last acquisition in the coming months for TRG. Pruyn said the company remains in an acquisition mode if and when the right opportunity comes along. Specifically, TRG is interested in companies with significant materials and custom mixing experience, or organizations that produce molded polymers and engineered plastics.
"We also will (look for) companies that (manufacture) additional sealing products, including distribution opportunities," Pruyn said. "We plan to engage in some level of (M&A discussions) in all areas."
Founded in 1986, The Rubber Group manufactures and distributes custom compression and injection molded rubber products, including grommets, bellows, bumpers, seals and hoses. The company's products often are used in critical, high cost of failure applications across a broad range of end markets, including medical, oil and gas, general industrial and transportation.
