WARRENDALE, Pa.—Trelleborg Sealing Solutions, a division of Trelleborg A.B., has agreed to acquire thermoplastics manufacturer Magee Plastics of the greater Pittsburgh area.
Trelleborg Sealing has its North American headquarters in Fort Wayne, Ind. The transaction is expected to close in the fourth quarter of this year.
"The acquisition strengthens Trelleborg's position in the aerospace industry by adding cutting-edge expertise in thermoforming and vacuum forming," said Jurgen Bosch, president of Trelleborg Sealing Solutions. "The acquisition also broadens Trelleborg's interior fittings offering for the aerospace industry, which is expected to generate favorable sales synergies."
Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
Magee Plastics, started by Ted Magee 56 years ago, maintains an FAA145-certified service workshop that will increase Trelleborg's aftermarket share in the aerospace industry, Bosch said.
Magee, with net sales of about $22 million in 2023, specializes in custom-crafted, high-performance thermoplastic and composite materials.
"The aerospace industry is expected to experience healthy growth for many years," Trelleborg said in a statement. "To meet the growing demand, Trelleborg is making bolt-on acquisitions and capacity-increasing investments in existing operations."
Trelleborg Sealing in May announced it will invest $9 million over two years to open a new facility in Morocco to focus on sealing solutions for the aerospace industry.
The Swedish firm said the factory will give it a local presence for several customers in the country and also boost capacity to help it meet the industry's strong global growth.
The facility will begin operations by the end of 2025.
Trelleborg Group saw sales of about $3.2 billion in 2023. Other main business units for Trelleborg are Trelleborg Industrial Solutions and Trelleborg Medical Solutions.
