TRELLEBORG, Sweden—Trelleborg A.B., one of the world's leading producers of seal and damping products for a range of industries, has finalized the acquisition of a polymer-coated fabrics operation in North America.
The deal between Trelleborg Industrial Solutions—one of three core business segments for the company, along with Trelleborg Sealing Solutions and Trelleborg Wheel Systems—and Alpha Engineered Composites L.L.C. was finalized Dec. 30.
Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
"The acquisition is a good example of how the Trelleborg Industrial Solutions business area is climbing the value ladder to create better and larger business opportunities," Jean-Paul Mindermann, president of Trelleborg Industrial Solutions, said in a statement.
According to Trelleborg, the polymer-coated fabrics space netted about $9.9 million in 2021 revenues for the Lakewood, N.J.-based Alpha Engineered Composites, an international, privately owned company.
With the transaction finalized, Trelleborg now owns all the production equipment, customer contracts and intellectual property rights that had been under Alpha.
Specifically, Trelleborg will look to open up new markets in the heat-resistant, silicone-coated fabrics space, which has applications in transportation equipment, aerospace products and industrial products. Mindermann said the deal also gives Trelleborg access to several well-known brands, including the Fairprene name, which has been well-established for 50 years.
"The acquired assets and accompanying solid customer base complement our product portfolio very well," Mindermann said. "We look forward to the opportunity to continue to develop products and solutions in advanced heat-resistant silicone coated fabrics, which are used in such items such as train bellows and aircraft applications."
Overall, Trelleborg A.B. had annual sales of about $3.6 billion in 2021 and maintains operations in about 50 countries, with about 24,000 global employees.
