Trelleborg closes on sewer, drainage acquisition

BOCHUM, Germany—If there's a growing market segment, there's a good chance that Trelleborg Group is eyeing ways to capture—or grow—its market share.

The Trelleborg, Sweden-based firm has been aggressive in its mission to grow both organically and through acquisition across a range of segments, including medical, sealing and industrial. And on Nov. 30, the company, through its Trelleborg Industrial Solutions Group, grew again.

Trelleborg closed on another of those acquisitions, bringing into the fold operations from Bochum-headquartered Innovative Sewer Technologies.

In doing so, Trelleborg adds to its expertise in sewer and drainage pipe rehabilitation and manufacture of machinery, robotics and liners that are used in trenchless pipe repairs.

"The market for trenchless pipe rehabilitation performed with glass fiber and Ultraviolet light curing technology is growing by a double-digit amount each year," Jean-Paul Mindermann, president of the Trelleborg Industrial Solutions business area, said in an October news release announcing the Industrial Solutions Group acquisition.

This growth, Trelleborg said, is due in part to the increased risk for leakage and infiltration as aging pipe infrastructure across the globe continues to break down. By adding to its capabilities and expertise, Trelleborg positions itself to provide needed sewer and pipe rehabilitation solutions—particularly in Europe and North America, where the trenchless pipe rehabilitation technology is established and being embraced.

"This acquisition," Mindermann said, "is therefore a strategic addition that strengthens Trelleborg's position in the pipe repair market."
