Tipco takes next step forward with Hose of South Texas deal

OWENS MILLS, Md.—Tipco Technologies Inc. is one step closer to reaching its mission of becoming the largest independent distributor of fluid conveyance and sealing solutions in the U.S.

That came with the April 2 deal in which Owens Mills-based Tipco acquired the Hose of South Texas business. Based in Corpus Christi, Texas, House of South Texas will continue to operate under the leadership of Tripp Batey as president, the firms said in a news release.

"The partnership between Tipco and HOST centers around our shared desire to build people and foster strong partnerships," Rob Lyons, CEO of Tipco's commercial business, said in a statement. "As we envision our future together, we prioritize ways to support growth and cultivate distinctive careers for our talented team."

Hose of South Texas was founded in 1978 to supply industrial and hydraulic hoses. It has served the South Texas market and beyond, "earning a reputation for excellence, reliability, and unparalleled customer service," according to the news release.

"Hose of South Texas is thrilled to be joining the Tipco team," Batey said. "The model and vision of Tipco is what fueled our excitement. What Tipco is creating is different from anything else in the current landscape of distribution.

"Our philosophy extends beyond simply selling hose, we prioritize finding solutions for our customers. This partnership with Tipco aligns perfectly with our goal."

The partnership will result in a total of 31 locations across 15 states. Tipco said the move significantly boosts its presence in Texas, establishing its prominence in the region.

"As this collaboration progresses, we will look to build our business on a foundation of people and partnerships, growing flexible focused solutions for our valued customers," the firm said.

Tipco was established in 1888 and has grown into being a leading provider of comprehensive fluid solutions. In December 2023, it expanded nationwide through a strategic merger with HydraTech Industrial Solutions. The combined firm is run by Lyons as CEO of commercial business and Brad Marshall as CEO of operational business.

Going into that deal, Tipco had a strong presence in the Mid-Atlantic region, while HydraTech has distribution centers from the Southeast to the Pacific Northwest. The business continues to carry the Tipco name.
