AKRON—Smithers is bringing more tire and wheel testing capabilities into the fold with the acquisition of Standards Testing Laboratories' Indoor Testing Division.
STL's Indoor Testing Division includes all indoor tire and wheel testing capabilities, which enables Smithers to support its tire and wheel clients "with a broader portfolio of regulatory and compliance testing," Jim Popio, vice president of Smithers Materials Science and Engineering Division, said in a statement.
"Smithers is strategically and historically connected to the tire and wheel industries and is always looking to invest in opportunities that strengthen our ability to support clients in these spaces," he said.
The STL Fabricated Machine Division and Texas operations will still be owned and operated by STL, Smithers said. Details of the acquisition were not disclosed.
