Among the deals of the past year-plus, Singer Industrial's purchase of American Hose & Hardware Inc. represented its first operation in Georgia, and the location gives it the chance to compete in the Atlanta area.
Capital Rubber & Gasket Co., with locations in Northern California, introduced Singer Industrial to the Golden State. The firm followed that up by adding a location in Southern California that specializes in expansion joints and bellows, which Osborne said is a complementary add-on to its traditional hose offerings.
While acquisitions have made for a lot of headlines for Singer Industrial, the CEO said the firm has been active setting up greenfield locations as well. Two main reasons to go that route, he said, are to enter geographic regions where it makes sense for the company to be present, and also to be near a customer that needs more support.
"If they're a big enough customer, we may want to develop a location and then build around that," Osborne said. "Use them as the anchor customer, but then build additional business around that."
Singer Industrial has opened up about eight greenfields in the past 18 months, he said. Some are expanding capabilities it already had, such as one in Fargo, N.D., to service higher-volume hydraulic hose for OEM bulk assemblies.
The company also established a location in Florida to supply large bore hose for shipyard supply, a capability the company also maintains at locations in Alabama, Louisiana and Texas.
Geographically, Osborne said the firm is strong in the Northeast and Gulf Coast region, but has further growth opportunities in the Southeast, Southwest and on the West Coast.
