RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif.—Motion Industries Inc. has signed an agreement to purchase west coast industrial distributor Thompson Industrial Supply Inc., the company said Feb. 12.
The deal is Motion's second acquisition of 2025, and it is set to further grow the distributor's footprint along the west coast.
Thompson Industrial has been owned by Gary Thompson and his family since its inception in 1969 and currently employs 45 between two California locations in Rancho Cucamonga and South El Monte. The business provides bearings, motors, hydraulics and other industrial products, as well as in-house belt shop services and fabrications, company officials said.
"This partnership unlocks significant growth opportunities as we introduce a new era of customer service with an expanded range of offerings and resources," Thompson said. "Moreover, our strong strategic and cultural alignment completes the perfect fit."
Motion Industries President James Howe said that Thompson, the business's current majority owner, will transition the family-owned business to Motion over time. Other members of the family will also stay in their current roles through the transition.
"Thompson Industrial Supply is a highly reputable business, and we are thrilled to have their incredibly talented employees join the Motion team," Howe said. "We also look forward to further bolstering our leadership position and impact to the Southern California market."
