Holcim boosts offerings with Polymers Sealants North America acquisition

ZUG, Switzerland—The acquisitions at Holcim Solutions and Products U.S. L.L.C. continue at a rapid pace, both in and out of the rubber product and polymer world.

Holcim closed Oct. 4 on the acquisition of Polymers Sealants North America division of Illinois Tool Works, a supplier of waterproof coatings and sealants for the roofing construction space.

PSNA expects to see net sales of about $100 million in 2022, according to Holcim. The addition is expected to boost Holcim's Solutions and Products division to about 30 percent of net group sales by 2025.

Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

"With PSNA, we are broadening our waterproofing and coatings offering while delivering significant synergies with our roofing business," said Jamie Gentoso, head of the solutions and products segment. "Building on their proven engineering and technical expertise, we will accelerate new product development and leading solutions together.

By expanding its building envelope offering, Holcim is looking to increase its products for energy-efficient buildings.

Holcim has manufacturing plants in California, Arizona, Texas, Georgia and Massachusetts.

"PSNA's innovation-driven approach is highly complementary to Holcim's existing building envelope business and is expected to generate significant synergies," the company said in an Oct. 4 release.

Outside of construction and waterproofing, PSNA works in aerospace composites and wind energy manufacturing.

The purchase of PSNA follows Holcim's other recent acquisitions in roofing and insulation, from Firestone Building Products, to Malarkey Roofing Products, to SES.

The company also added United Kingdom-based Wiltshire Heavy Building Materials Oct. 6; Poland's Izolbet (thermal insulation and finishing) Oct. 5; and Belgium-based Cantillana (facade construction and external thermal insulation) Sept. 22.

Holcim is eyeing net sales of $3.52 billion in 2022.

The company anticipates ongoing growth in green roofs and other sustainable products because of governmental mandates in Europe and a growing number of similar mandates elsewhere, first in Canada and eventually in the U.S.
