Continental buys Swedish mining belt supplier NorrVulk

STOCKHOLM—Continental A.G.'s conveyor solutions segment is set to acquire mining belt supplier NorrVulk A.B., located in Gallivare in northern Sweden.

The acquisition is subject to approval by antitrust authorities, Conti said July 4. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

"With NorrVulk, we have succeeded in acquiring one of the leading suppliers of conveyor belts and related services in northern Sweden," said Song Qi, head of global business for the conveyor belt division at Continental. "The acquisition underscores our goal of further expanding our service business directly with our customers and aligning our focus accordingly."

NorrVulk employs 16 people in Gallivare, where there is a strong mining tradition, Conti said.

NorrVulk offers individual conveyor belts and on-site installation, as well as maintenance and other services.

The acquisition brings Conti closer to its industrial customers, as the company's belts are being used at Jehander's Quarry to transport rubble from the Stockholm "mega-tunnel" project, so that the crushed rock can be reused in road construction for the same initiative.

Continental's Conveying Solutions has more than 5,800 employees at 54 locations in 16 countries.

Continental's ContiTech division, based in Fairlawn, Ohio—and specifically the conveyor belt segment there—acquired North Dakota-based WCCO Belting Inc. July 5, increasing Conti's presence in the agriculture conveyance market.
