SANTA CLARA, Calif.—Agilent Technologies Inc. has acquired Polymer Standards Service GmbH, a German company that designs hardware and software to measure the characteristics of polymers.
In addition to its headquarters and plant in Mainz, Germany, privately held PSS has operations in Amherst, Mass. PSS will become part of Agilent's Life Sciences and Applied Materials Group.
The companies did not disclose financial details of their deal, which they announced in an Aug. 2 news release.
PSS was founded in 1985 and specifically works with gel permeation and size exclusion chromatography to gauge the molecular weight and size distribution of macromolecules.
Santa Clara, Calif.-based Agilent develops and manufactures analytic instruments, equipment, technology and software for the diagnostics, applied chemicals and life sciences markets.
Agilent had sales of $6.32 billion in fiscal 2021 and employs 17,000 people globally. Agilent was formed in 1999 when it spun off from Hewlett-Packard Co.
