KEYNOTE ADDRESS, Tuesday September 12 Maurizio Boiocchi, the Global Director of Research and Development for Pirelli Pneumatici SpA |
When Rubber & Plastics News started ITEC in 1994, it was the first-ever exhibition and conference held exclusively for tire manufacturers. Over the years, we've strived to plan a number of "firsts" into each ITEC-innovations that had a significant impact on the international tire industry. For example:
- In 1996, we held the Automotive Challenge Roundtable, which featured automotive OEM representatives interacting directly with tire makers.
- 1998 brought the first Mock Trial to explore issues related to product liability avoidance and legal expectations as it impacts tire manufacturers (issues that are still relevant today).
- In 2000 we held the Trilogy Awards, which recognized the most important accomplishments in the tire industry over the past century.
- For 2002, we staged the Run-Flat Symposium, and the Tire Society held its annual meeting concurrently with ITEC for the first time.
- In 2004, the University of Akron held its Tire Mechanics Short Course here, and we introduced our "Lunch with the Experts" interactive panel discussions.
ITEC 2006 also had it's share of "firsts":
- For the first time we hosted the Society of Automotive Engineers' (SAE) Highway Tire Rolling Resistance Task Group.
- For the first time we included a China Pavilion featuring exhibits from 12 Chinese suppliers and manufacturers.
- We had first-time exhibitors from Belgium, England, Germany, France, Israel and Italy, along with a host of new suppliers from the U.S.
- We had first-time presenters come from NHTSA, the Nitrogen Inflation Association, the Tire Industry Association, Chemical Market Associates, General Electric, JEOlusa, Daws Engineering, Continental, Goodyear Aircraft Tires, Sumitomo and Yokohama.
We are in the preliminary planning stages for ITEC 2008, so please check back periodically for new information
We are pleased that once again the Tire Society annual meeting and the University of Akron's Tire Mechanics Short Course will be held concurrent to ITEC 2008. So for this week, the focus of the tire industry is on Akron, Ohio.
