The manufacturers of latex dipped goods in the U.S. emjoyed the presence of a steady manufacturing base from the 1960s through 1985. The U.S. latex glove and condom markets experienced steady, predictable sales, with very modest growth annually. In the mid-1980's, a major shift in latex goods manufacturing occurred through the discovery of the HIV virus. At that time, the manufacturing of dispolable gloves experienced an explosive growth in the U.S., resulting in plant expansions by virtually every existing latex and PVC glove manufacturer.
