Although rubber materials continue to be used in many of the products that they have been from the inception of compounded rubber itself, the rubber materials themselves have changed greatly in recent years. Rubber materials now are capable of much higher physical properties than before. The applications for some of these compounds have, in some cases, directed how some of the compounds themselves are now mixed just as new mixing techniques have, in some instances, allowed for some compounds to be used in new ways. Also of every increasing importance is the necessity to reduce the cost per kilo of mixed rubber compound.
