In the application of waterborne binder systems to nonwoven substrates, it is necessary to understand the influence of polymer structure, catalyst loading, and other essential additive levels on the cured binder system. These variables can be optimized through the use of designed experiments that can also quantify the effect of process variables such as storage time, pH and cure temperature of the aqueous binder system. A dynamic mechanical rheometer is employed to measure the degree of cure through measurement of the complex viscosity of the polymer mixture.
