Price, availability and demand for traditional petroleum based fuels have created an increasing demand for sustainable and environmentally friendly fuel sources such as biodiesel based fuels. Biodiesel fuels based on fatty acid methyl esters can provide unique challenges to users and manufactures of traditional rubber hoses. Understanding the chemical nature of biodiesel fuels and the capability of available rubber compounds is key to developing the appropriate material technology compatible with various biodiesel fuels.
