The electrical industry is changing from traditional EPDM and ceramic to HTV silicone as well as LSR for performance reasons in North America. The challenge was met with larger injection units, larger presses, and larger silicone stuffing devices. Unique mold designs and valve gated cold runners were developed as a result. Direct bonding was developed to eliminate the costly step of stretching and bonding molded sheds over insulator and arrestor modules. Large volume silicone injection molding and tooling concepts will be discussed and illustrated in this presentation.
