Effect of Oxygen on Dynamic Mechanical Properties

The objective was to determine the effect of gas type (especially oxygen)on the dynamic mechanical properties on a model tread compound and a model wire coat compound. In one case, oxygen was present. In the second case, high purity inert nitrogen was used. Induced cross linking reactions were sufficient enough to be considered significant when tested in simple shear. The results have implications on the effect of inflation gas on post manufacture cross linking and on rolling resistance.
