Silicone rubbers have fine electrical properties, good chemical stability and excellent cold and heat resistance. They are thus widely used for electric and electronic equipment, automobile parts, and office automation equipment. Recently, concerns about VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds) have arisen, and electric and electronic manufactures report that low molecular-weight cyclic Siloxanes (LMW-Si) can cause contact failure. Silicone rubbers contain low molecular-weight cyclic Siloxanes in the main polymers, and these LMW-Si become VOCs during the molding process. Post curing of silicone products is a popular process for reducing LMW-Si, but there are possible environmental issues associated with the release of VOCs into the atmosphere. In this report, we would like to introduce new LIMS™ materials which contain lower amounts of LMW-Si and also report several analytical studies for LMW-Si measurement that estimate the potential impact in an actual production environment.
