In recent years, the increase in the global use of silicone materials has been dramatic. This trend has been supported by silicone's high performance advantages such as wide in-use temperature range, chemical resistance, good electrical properties, and environmental benefits. Silicone elastomers, which are utilized in a broad range of industries and applications, support this trend. The growth in global silicone rubber utilization has been the result of an industrial drive by developed nations to promote economic growth though advances in productivity, improved performance standards and support for burgeoning industries. In all these settings, silicone elastomers have advanced competitiveness while also offering processing and cost efficiencies. Executives at Dow Corning predict that silicone rubber consumption will demonstrate the strongest growth in the high-performance elastomers sector through formulations with improved performance and/or processability, such as fluorosilicone elastomers, liquid silicone elastomers and liquid fluorosilicone elastomers.
