Energy-Efficient Tires, Green Tires, Fuel Saver Tires, Low-Rolling Resistance Tires - all basically mean the same thing and have one common factor – High Performance Silica. All of these terms refer to the performance advantages gained by adding High Performance Silica to tire tread compounds in addition to or as a replacement of carbon black or conventional silica. Using High Performance Silica in the tire tread compound can result in a significant reduction in rolling resistance, without losing tire global performances which in term leads to substantial fuel economies. The objective of this paper is to present some trends regarding sustainable mobility; the unique value for tire manufacturers of using High Performance Silica and the current status of this technology worldwide.
