Anti-degradants are an important ingredient of rubber compounds. Anti-degradants are added to rubber compounds to protect the rubber from degradation due to axygen and ozone. The anti-degradants reduce, but can not stop, the aging process in rubbery materials. Model tread compound and sidewall compound formulations were prepared on a laboratory scale. These compositions were used as analytical baselines. Several sampling methodologies were employed to assess the anti-degradant levels in these slab stock samples.
