Injection molding of liquid silicones in a two shot application is a combination of two well-known processes in one machine: molding of silicones and two component thermoplastic molding. However, there are several things to be taken care of. LSR cures at high temperatures. Most thermoplastic materials cannot be demolded at these high temperatures. How can this be resolved? Another problem to avoid is that the heat from the hot runner usually used in multicomponent molds starts to cure the silicone. Thermal separation of the mold without losing the accuracy is the challenge. Another challenge is posed to the machine control. Complex movements, different temperatures, and start-up procedures are the challenge.
