Improved Processability of Thermoplastic and Elastomer Compounds Without Adding Plasticizer or Heat

Titanate or zicronate coupling agents are additives that when added to a compound chemically bridge fillers such as carbon black, silica, CaCO3, metal oxides with polymers. The subsequent titanium coating on the carbon black lowers the Mooney viscosity via in situ metallocene-like catalysis, which results in increased flow and mechanical properties. This paper will discuss the tricks devised using titanate coupling agents to make high performance rubber compounds that run better, faster, stronger and cheaper.
