RIM LINE GROOVES AS AN INDICATOR OF UNDERINFLATED OR OVERLOADED TIRE OPERATION IN RADIAL TIRES

Every day in the United States, hundreds of thousands of tires are removed from service. The vast majority of these tires have simply worn out. Thousands of tires, however, are removed from service prematurely for a variety of conditions such as unusual wear, ride vibration, noise, punctures, cuts, blowouts, separations or detachments, impact damage, and stone drilling. Most tires removed from service are given some type of examination to determine if they need to be scrapped or if they can be put back to use, or remanufactured by repairing or retreading. Additionally, some tires removed from service are examined to determine the reasons that rendered the tire unserviceable. That is did the tire become disabled as the result of some service condition, such as overdeflected operation, or due to an issue with the design or manufacture of the tire? To make the decision, the examiner looks for signs or evidence that point to the underlying reason.
