This paper will discuss some of the latest rheological test methods which are presently being used in the Tire Industry to characterize and control the quality of reinforcing carbon blacks and precipitated silicas, including controlling the degree of silanization which occurs during mixing. Through the use of new standard methods based on RPA 2000 technology, it is now possible to test and control more effectively the state of mix, viscous heating, filler-polymer interaction, and the final after-cure dynamic property performance of cured tire compounds.
