Dana completes hose unit sale Dana Corp. has completed the sale of its hydraulic brake hose facilities in Columbia City, Ind., and Garching, Germany, to CF Gomma, S.p.A. of Passirano, Italy. Terms were not disclosed.

The transaction was the latest in a series of nine divestitures and five acquisitions or joint ventures made by Dana during the last year.

Implant study finds no disease link

The largest study of silicone breast implants to date has found no link between silicone and connective tissue disease, according to a science advocacy group.

Published in the Feb. 5 ``British Medical Journal,'' the study was sponsored by the International Epidemiology Institute and involved case histories of nearly 7,500 Swedish women with silicone implants. The study had a 100-percent response rate ``with no selection bias,'' said the Advancement of Sound Science Coalition in announcing the results.

Report sees rise in butadiene use

Global demand for 1,3-butadiene will grow an average of 4.2 percent annually through 2002, according to the ``1997/98 World Butadiene Analysis'' issued by Chemical Market Associates Inc.

The prediction is 35 percent higher than the 3.1-percent growth recorded between 1992 and 1996, CMAI said. Demand hikes are expected to outstrip capacity growth, despite new production facilities planned for several countries in Asia's Pacific Rim, the group said.

ITRA show will leave Louisville

The World Tire and Transportation Services Conference and Exposition, formerly the Louisville Retreaders Conference, will not be held in Louisville in 1999.

An alternate site hasn't been selected for the conference, sponsored by the International Tire and Rubber Association, although Nashville is being considered, a spokesman said.

Witco completes expansion

Witco Corp. has completed an expansion of its OrganoSilicones Group's Sisterville, W.Va., manufacturing facility.

The plant will be used to supply amino, vinyl and other difunctional silanes to such markets as adhesives, sealants and coatings, the company said.

Bayer joins Solutia in venture

Bayer Corp. and Solutia Inc. will team up to build an acrylonitrile production facility at Solutia's Akvin, Texas, site. Two Solutia customers also are expected to join them in the venture. Costs were not disclosed.

``This venture with Solutia is another facet of our plan to utilize strategic partnerships, acquisitions and cooperative efforts to enhance the raw material and market positions of our strategic product lines,'' said H. Lee Noble, president of Bayer's polymers division.
